As part of the CMA’s Green Claims Code it is important that our customers have confidence in the environmental claims made about their products. When looking at items that include recycled content it is increasingly important to understand the material’s origins which for some products is not always clear. At Keenpac, we wanted to go further, to offer our customers full traceability ensuring that wherever possible the textile products we supply have the whole story, from the source of the waste right through to the point of delivery.

This is where our partnership with Waste 2 Wear was born. We work with Waste 2 Wear to provide a solution to the problem of plastic waste. Their blockchain technology offers a robust trail of the complete supply chain. The products are made from discarded home appliances such as fridges, and microwaves. These appliances are shredded and blended with old food containers to make Recycled Polypropylene (RPP), which in turn is made into yarn, and ultimately into reusable bags, garment covers and pouches.

Every stage of the production is locked into the blockchain, which is geo tagged and through the App we can see where the recycled product was made. A QR code for each production is provided for the blockchain and this is included onto the product or tag, so the end user can also see the environmental impact of the product. This also includes a ‘how it’s made’ video, data for the product and the environmental report to show the carbon, energy and water saving versus virgin material.
