Keenpac Nominated by Disney for Most Sustainable Vendor
Last Updated on Friday 18th Nov 2016
Packaging supplier Keenpac has been nominated by Disney for the “2010 Most Sustainable Vendor, Global” award at this year’s Annual Vendor Partner Meeting held Thursday 11th November, in New York City. Out of all of Disney’s global suppliers Keenpac was nominated as one of just three in the world to be selected in this category.
The conference this year took place at the Westin New York Hotel, to coincide with the opening of the new flagship Disney Store in Times Square. It is Disney’s annual showcase event, in which Disney’s suppliers from around the world, come together to share Disney’s plans for 2011.
The awards presentation is Disney’s way of giving special recognition to its top suppliers. This year, around 200 suppliers were in attendance, including Keenpac. Keenpac were nominated for work on the Disney packaging range, which is both sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Having worked with Disney for over 5 years, Keenpac was asked to supply a range of corrugate boxes, pillow packs and re-usable shoppers for the Disney Store globally. The inks used for the boxes are natural soy, finished with a high gloss, yet environmentally friendly aqueous varnish. The end result – a 90% recycled box which is 100% recyclable. To complete the collection, and following the same eco-brief, Disney’s re-useable shoppers took a step away from non-woven polypropylene towards recycled PET, produced from recycled plastic bottles.
The Award was presented to Jim Maddison of Keenpac by Jim Fielding, President of Disney Stores Worldwide, Teresa Tideman, Joint MD, Disney Store Europe, and of course Mickey and Minnie Mouse!!
Said Jim Maddison, Keenpac’s National Account Manager for Disney; “I was surprised and delighted to have been nominated. I really wasn’t expecting it. This is a very difficult category because it is global, so there was a lot of competition, but we have worked hard on making the Disney packaging as environmentally friendly as possible, without losing its vibrancy, so it is fantastic to have been recognised in this way.”

Did you know 14 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans every year?
Plastic accounts for 80% of the debris found in the sea. #plasticwaste affects marine life, human health and contributes to #pollution. That's why Waste2Wear use plastic collected from the ocean for their fabrics.
